The commissioned store business district near Keelung Railway Station was once the largest department store in Taiwan during the early days. The district is characterized by a variety of unique businesses and regularly hosts market events. It has become an important arts and cultural district in Keelung and was once the most vibrant commercial area in early Keelung!

The period from the 1950s to the 1980s was the heyday of the commissioned street. At that time, Taiwan was not yet open to the outside world, and foreign merchant ships and ocean fishing boats often arrived from the United States and Japan, carrying daily necessities and clothing to be sold on consignment in the commissioned street. The street also accepted customers' requests to bring back specified goods from overseas. At its peak, there were up to 300 commissioned shops in the area. However, in 1979, when Taiwan officially opened up to allow free overseas tourism for its citizens and various department stores emerged, the culture of the commissioned street gradually declined.
